Carl Heinrich Fredrich Schmidt aka Charles Smith ( b. Mar 31 1867 Cedar County, Iowa d. Dec 20,1953 Spokane, WA) son of Heinrich Schmidt (1816-1897) and Louise Wilheimine Dorothee Tonne (1837-1875). The family consisted of half brother Heinrich (b. 1857, Germany), brothers Christian (b. 1862), Friedrich (b. 1863), Carl (b. 1867), Ernest (b. 1871), George (b. 1873) Friedrich Wilhelm (b. 1875 d. 1866) and sister Sophie (b. 1865). He was a member of Spokane lodge No. 34, F&A.M., (Free and Accepted Masons) Scottish Rites bodies of which he was a 50-year member, and El Katif Shrine of which he was a 35-year life member; Alcyone chapter No. 97, O.E.S. (Order of the Eastern Star), of which he was a past Petron; a member of the Past Petrons and Patrons club; Iowa Pioneer Society, and was a former member of the B. of L.E. No. 791 (Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen). He was a resident of Spokane for 64 years. Funeral Wed. Dec 23, a 1 p.m. in the Alwin Chapel of the Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home, N1306 Monroe St. Christian Science reader assisted by Rose Croix. Burial services at Fairmont Memorial Park Cemetary. Carl/Charles and Islay had two children: Ernest C. (Charles?) SMITH (bca 1905 d. 1969 Spokane WA, buried Fairmont Cemetery) Lived in Lost River, Alaska. Irene L. SMITH (b.10 Apr1907 d. 21 Dec 1988 Lacey, WA) marr. 17 Aug 1937 Ralph K. ALLEN (bc.1904 Marceline, Missouri-d. 7 Jan1994 Newport, WA).
